Hello, I’m Gwen.

I walked into my first yoga class at a gym in West Hollywood in 1996. At that time, I was more interested in burning calories than slowing down. After class, I felt amazing—like I had been present in my body for the first time.

My mind was calm. My body felt relaxed. My whole being felt centered.

So I kept going to class on and off—here and there.

Over time, I became a regular at a popular studio in West Hollywood where I was introduced to Iyengar yoga. It was slower, but still intense. During a class, Paul Canabanis gave me a small adjustment in a posture, and I felt a seismic shift in my body. In my mind, a lightbulb turned on.

Yoga deeply soothed my anxiety and stress. My relationship with food and myself shifted—eventually enabling me to leave a long-time eating disorder in the past.

I've had the privilege to be mentored by and assist influential yoga teachers including Jasmine Lieb, Jeanne Heilemann, Carmen Fitzgibbor, Jill Miller, and Garth McLean.

I’m the founder of Embodied Anatomy, Physiology and Movement for Yoga Teachers, an anatomy training that helps new and experienced instructors gain a deeper understanding of human anatomy so they can safely guide and adapt poses to their students’ unique needs. I teach Anatomy, Introduction to Therapeutics, and Helping with Injuries and Special Conditions at advanced teacher trainings.

In teach private in-person sessions in the Pasadena area. I also work with students virtually through my hybrid online yoga program, Yoga Wellness™. I’m currently pioneering a yoga research project with Caltech.

In addition to being a yoga teacher, I am a daughter, sister, aunt, wife, and mother of twins.

Mothering tween twins can feel challenging at times. But you don’t need a set of twins to know that living in our modern world can sometimes feel stressful. As a yoga instructor, I know how important it is to stay grounded and connected to ourselves as we move through the occasional (or chronic) life complications that seem hellbent on sideswiping our joy.

I’m imperfect. We all are.

That’s the beauty and creativity of it.

I love teaching yoga as a practical tool—with an emphasis on incorporating healthy movement, breathwork, and mindfulness into every nook and cranny of our messy lives. My approach is down-to-earth and practical. At the same time, I’m adamant about the science of proper anatomical alignment, and its sister, unfettered, joyful movement, for long-term mobility.

I love helping people with pain, injuries, or special conditions live with less stress and more strength, ease, and inner peace.
